ARDMS Knowledge Confirmation Explained: The December 31, 2026 Deadline
Short answer: Knowledge Confirmation is a new yearly requirement for ARDMS® credential holders (RDMS, RDCS, RVT and RMSKS). Each year you answer 40 questions per specialty, released as four quarterly quizzes of 10, and you need at least 80% correct overall by December 31 to keep that specialty active.
The first deadline is December 31, 2026. If you hold an ARDMS credential and haven't started your 2026 quizzes, now is the time.

Wait, is this ARDMS or Inteleos?
Both. ARDMS is one of the certifying councils under Inteleos, and ardms.org now redirects to inteleos.org. Your credential is still an ARDMS credential. Knowledge Confirmation is part of the Inteleos Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program, which is why you'll find all the official details on the Inteleos site.
Who has to complete Knowledge Confirmation?
According to the Inteleos MOC FAQ, the requirement starts on January 1, 2026 for:
RDMS
RDCS
RVT
RMSKS
ABVM Vascular and Endovascular Medicine
It starts on January 1, 2027 for RPVI, RMSK, CBCCT, CBCMR and CBNC.
The Neurosonology (NE) specialty is not included.
Newly certified? Knowledge Confirmation begins the full calendar year after you earn a credential or specialty. Inteleos gives this example: if you earned RDMS (AB) in 2025 and added OB/GYN in February 2026, your Abdomen quizzes are due December 31, 2026, and your OB/GYN quizzes start January 1, 2027, with a first deadline of December 31, 2027.
So if you pass your registry in 2026, your first Knowledge Confirmation year is 2027.
How Knowledge Confirmation works
Quizzes are released quarterly. Most certificants get four quizzes per specialty per year, 10 questions each.
Each specialty is separate. If you hold Abdomen, OB/GYN and Vascular, you get a separate set of 40 questions for each one. You complete the set for every specialty you want to keep active.
There's no pass or fail on a single quiz. What counts is your cumulative score across all 40 questions for the year.
Skipped questions count as wrong. Once you submit or skip an answer, you can't change it.
You learn as you go. After an incorrect answer, the platform shows an explanation and extra learning resources.
It's done on the SKILLS Platform. Use the SKILLS website or mobile app: SKILLS Platform.
What does 80% cumulative mean?
With 40 questions in a year, 80% means 32 correct answers. Put another way, you can miss up to 8 questions per specialty across the whole year and still meet the requirement.
Because it's cumulative, one rough quiz doesn't sink you. A 6 out of 10 in the spring can be balanced by strong scores later. But skipped questions count as incorrect, so leaving a quarterly quiz unfinished eats into your margin fast.

What happens if you miss the deadline or score under 80%?
Inteleos is direct about this. If you don't complete all 40 questions or don't reach 80% by December 31, "you will not meet the MOC requirement for that specialty." When a specialty lapses, that specialty or certification is revoked, and a reinstatement process applies (MOC FAQ). "Failing Knowledge Confirmation" is listed as a cause of loss of certification.
For most working sonographers, an active credential is a condition of employment, so this is worth taking seriously even though the quizzes themselves are short.
If you don't plan to practice and don't want to complete MOC, Inteleos offers a Retired status instead.
Does Knowledge Confirmation replace CME?
No. Inteleos lists Knowledge Confirmation as the newest component of Maintenance of Certification, alongside CME, not in place of it. Keep tracking your CME credits as usual.
How to prepare without cramming
The questions are designed to confirm you still know the core of your specialty, so most people who scan every day will do fine. A few habits help:
Don't let quarters pile up. Do each quiz when it's released, so a missed quarter doesn't force you to answer 20 or 30 questions in December.
Review the explanations. The platform gives feedback on misses. Those topics are worth a quick refresher before the next quiz.
Brush up outside your daily work. If you scan mostly one exam type, areas you rarely see (pediatric findings, rare pathology, physics details) are where points slip. A few minutes of practice questions a week in your specialty keeps those sharp.
Check each specialty separately. Multi-credentialed techs sometimes finish one specialty and forget the others. Each one has its own 40 questions and its own 80%.
If you'd like a low-pressure way to keep your specialty knowledge fresh between quizzes, Prepry's spaced-repetition Study Blocks and practice questions cover the ARDMS® specialties and work on your phone in a few spare minutes.
